Ellesmere College has launched a new sports programme, a golf academy to offer children aged 8-18 the opportunity to receive golf coaching from PGA professional Keith Williams. Members of the academy can choose programmes designed to enhance each stage of a young golfer's progress, namely: activities, development and high performance.
Keith Williams is recognised as one of the leading coaches in Europe with a career spanning over 30 years; he has coached most of the bright young stars on the European Tour. Keith has worked with top golfers such as PGA Champions, Scott Drummond and Andy Marshall, as well as several England squads.
Students will have access to the on-site golf course, as well as membership to local courses, including Hawkstone Park.
Current academy players include; West Midlands U16 and USKG World Championship representative Molly Barker, West Midlands U16 and European Junior Alec Tate, Leo Gycha from Golfclub Bayreuth in Germany and Sebastian Dewhurst, Junior representative from Carden Park Golf Club. In the first round of the ISGA Schools matchplay tournament, the team beat Oswestry School 2.1. They now go on to play the winners of Solihull v Shrewsbury.
The academy programme:
• Regular personalised coaching sessions
• Technical golf skills development and specialist golf strength and conditioning training
• Video analysis and golf simulation
• Scholarship opportunities
"What excites me most about the Ellesmere Golf Academy is the opportunity to develop a player pathway for children," says Ian Williams, Director of Sport at Ellesmere,
"The Academy is open to both girls and boys and is available to all standards of players. The purpose of the programme is to enhance the excellent provision for sport that exists at the School and also allow individual pupils to develop their academic and sporting talents to a level not normally supported in schools".
