Staff and pupils celebrate the GCSE results published today. 82.7% of grades awarded were A* to C grades. It was pleasing to note that over 24% of all grades were the top grades of A*/A. Yet again our girls excelled with 94% of graded being A*- C and over 45% of grades secured were A* or A. Most departments recorded 100% pass. Results for IGCE were published earlier with over 86% awarded pass grades between A*-C.
Whilst heartfelt congratulations go to all students there were some particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention as many scooped up a cluster of A*/A grades;
Christian Cieslik (Much Wenlock); 6A*s, 3As and a B,
Freya West (Market Drayton); 5A*, 4As and a B
Victoria von Hoven (Shrewsbury); 5A*s, 3As and 2 Bs
Sophie Osborne (Chester);7A*s and 2As
Ruslana Rashchupkina (Ukraine); 3 A*s 5As and 2 Bs
Sophie also managed to achieve a distinction in a National certificate in ICT. Several other students achieved a high number of top grades and the majority of pupils are now proceeding to Ellesmere College Sixth Form to start either A levels or the International Baccalaureate in September.
Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, said It is a testament to our pupils that all have combined achieving an excellent academic record along with maintaining their valued contribution to the musical, dramatic and sporting life of the College. It is always pleasing to receive such a good set of results. On completing their GCSEs today it is clear that our pupils have set down an excellent foundation on which to build their Sixth Form career. The results today are a credit to them, to their teachers and, of course, to their parents.
