Former Pupil returns to School for Degree Placement

Nick James, a former pupil at Ellesmere College returned to school this week to begin a three week work-placement as part of his degree course. Assigned to the PE Department and under the guidance of Ian Williams, Head of Sport, Nick will be involved in a number of different PE practical lessons to gain experience with a wide-ranging age group.

During Nick James' final year at Ellesmere College he was a Prefect and House Captain as well as representing the School in the 1st Rugby and 1st Cricket teams. He left with A-levels in Politics, Business Studies and PE, going straight to Leeds Metropolitian University to begin a three-year degree course in Leisure and Sports Studies. Since leaving Ellesmere Nick has continued to develop his cricket skills as part of the elite squad at the Leeds/Bradford University Centre of Excellence for Cricket which is funded by the Marylebone Cricket Club, based at Lords Cricket Ground. Nick also plays for Cheshire County Cricket Team.

Nick commented 'after having enjoyed my two years on a Sports Scholarship in the Sixth Form, Ellesmere College was my natural choice for a placement. I was delighted when I made contact with my former teacher and he agreed for me to join the PE Team for the period of my placement to witness excellence in PE teaching.'

Ian Williams added, 'We welcome Nick back to the School since he was a talented sportsman and strong team player and I am confident that he will find the placement of being on the staff an interesting and worthwile experience.'
