Firsts' Netball Match Report

On Saturday 4th February, the 1sts Netball hosted Oswestry School in the Sports Hall. Ellesmere seemed focus from the start; maybe as they were playing in their long awaited new kit or could it be down to whom they were playing? Ellesmere won the toss and took an early lead although it took five minutes for them to settle and dominate the first quarter. The quarter saw a definite improvement in shooting from previous matches. Ellesmeres shooters Sarah Griffiths and Abigail Merrell dominated the attacking circle and gained confidence during the game from this approach.

Ellesmere continued to control the game with Tiffany Salmon and Buffy Swinnerton dictating the pace. However, good shooting from the Oswestrys shooters kept them within reach. Ellesmeres set piece worked well with them demonstrating great attacking moves from centre passes. Squad practices definitely paying off!

Ellesmere were far the better team and their play was sensational at times which created excitement from the mass of supporters that came to watch. Credit should be given to Oswestry as they worked hard till the final whistle. The match ended 37 11. Abigail Merrill was given the player of the match title. This was a good performance from Ellesmere 1sts and lots of positives can be taken into the U19 North Shropshire Tournament the first week back after half term. Well done Girls!
