A recent concert at Ellesmere College organised by the Age UK North Shropshire Supporters' and sponsored by 3 Shropshire companies, raised £1,100 to support the work of the Charity around the North of the County.
With candle light abounding and Christmas trees around every corner, guests were treated to the sound of festive music beautifully performed by the Shrewsbury Light Orchestra and the very entertaining local singing group, the Gs & Ts. At the start of the evening and during the interval whilst refreshments were served, the audience were also treated to hearing the School's mighty Schulze Organ.
The Concert was held at Ellesmere College with the kind permission of the Headmaster and the evening was also made possible through the sponsorship by local firms, Lanyon Bowdler, Natural Welsh Water and School Shop Direct. Ellesmere's Boathouse Restaurant and the town's Fruit and Veg shop supported the promotion of the event through the sale of advance tickets as well as being 2 of the many donors of prizes for the raffle.
Father Christmas made a surprise appearance to draw the raffle during the interval and the evening was also supported by 2 Ellesmere College Lower School pupils, who were dressed as Christmas elves and were helpful in numerous ways during the evening. A cheque for £2,000 was also presented by Sue Dewhirst, the Chair of the Age UK North Shropshire Supporters to Age UK Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin's Chairperson, Anne Wignall.
Whilst many of the pieces performed by the Orchestra were instantly recognisable, some others were lesser known but equally enjoyed by the audience. Sue Dewhirst commented, 'The venue's festive ambience, mixed with the Christmas music made for a most enjoyable evening for teh audience who enthusiastically embraced the varied festive programme. On behalf of the Charity, I thank all those who contributed to the huge success of the evening'.
