Terry Caffrey, a writer and influential poet who has worked in over 2,500 schools, visited Ellesmere College to present his fun 'Creative Poetry Workshop' to year 7 and 8 pupils. His interactive sessions are linked to building self-esteem, confidence and the desire to want to engage with poetry and put your words down on a page.
Terry, who has worked with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester, the Citadel Theatre in St Helens, and Manchester City Football Club, demonstrates to audiences far and wide that poetry is alive. He encourages students to perform their work alongside him, finishing the day with a book signing.
Gemma Heald, Teacher of English and Drama, said “He was the North West’s first ‘author and reading champion.’ He has an innate ability to make words and language dynamic and can motivate even the most reluctant readers, no matter what their age. Terry’s school visits are heaps of fun for people of all ages, and I know that our students will have benefited hugely from his visit”.
