Sam Chapman, a Year 9 pupil at Ellesmere College has been
selected to attend the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) regional training camp.
This is part of their talent spotting programme and where the LTA coach the
next generation of tennis professionals.
Sam, who has been playing tennis for over 6 years and is
currently ranked number 2 in Shropshire, is part of the Ellesmere College
Tennis Academy which gives him the opportunity to compete against international
players which develop his game. The LTA Development Programme identifies talented players at
a young age, and offers support to the player and his coaching programme to
ensure that they are given every opportunity to grow and develop. This support
takes the form of high level training sessions and professional one to one
guidance.
“As part of the Ellesmere College Tennis Academy, Sam has
individual coaching, takes part in the on-site squad programme as well as
accessing the High Performance Centre at Wrexham. If he works hard and
dedicates himself to the sport he has the talent to go far in the game,” says
Academy Senior Performance Coach, Stephen Welti, LTA Registered Professional.
“The LTA obviously agrees, as Sam has been identified and invited to a regional
training camp this term.”
