Ellesmere Hosts First Pentathlon GB Event

Ellesmere College was the venue for the latest Pentathlon GB event which attracted over 100 participants. School children from across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton and the Black Country took part in the event which included the disciplines of swimming, running, shooting and fencing. Robert Flack, former Senior World and European Competitor commented "It was great to take time out from training to visit the event, which provided a good opportunity to see the high standards at the grass roots level. The day was good fun and provided children with the perfect environment to learn the skills in biathlon before reaching the ultimate goal of competing in the modern pentathlon".

Pentathlon GB organises local and regional competitions which lead to national championships for all ages. The event at Ellesmere College was part of a series of competitions that aim to promote the sport at grass roots level and introduce children to the different formats.Rachel Hares, Development Officer for Pentathlon GB said "The event went really well, it was the first of its kind in the Shropshire area and the standard from all the participants was really high. Ellesmere has exceptional facilities and is known for producing professional athletes, so it was the perfect venue to hold the competition".
