Ellesmere Girls Aiming For Glory At Trent Bridge

Ellesmere are targeting regional success in the Lady Taverners under-15 competition. The girls booked their place at the finals, which will be staged at Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge on April 4, by retaining their county title.

Seven schools from across the county took part in the event at TCAT but it was Ellesmere who came out on top following some accomplished performances with bat and ball.

Thomas Telford, who were runners up in the under-13s last week, were once again pipped to the post after going down to Ellesmere in the final. TTS batted first and despite a slow start with pressure created from Ellesmere's opening bowlers Aster Jones and Caro Hulme, Libby Taylor (15) and Lucy Berridge (12) put together a solid partnership to help their side post 53 - 3 from their eight overs.

In response, Ellesmere openers Caro Hulme (15) and Mia Foster (15) batted with strong tactical awareness and quickly put their side in charge. After the openers retired, a mid-innings stall accompanied by some disciplined bowling from Ellie Blocksidge (2-11) put TTS back in the game but a mature innings from Lottie Hulme saw her side over the line.

Sir John Talbots (Whitchurch) claimed third place spot thanks to some strong batting performances from Ashleigh Heath, who was competition top scorer with 65 runs. Idsall's Keira Down claimed a hat-trick in her side's match against TTS
