Ellesmere College duo Caro and Lottie Hulme have been selected for the Under 18 Wales Girls Hockey Squad. The 18 strong party will leave on the July 4th for Mori in Italy to play in the European Hockey Championships.
The Oswestry pair will come up against some of the best teams in Europe. Sides from Italy, Turkey, France and Austria will be taking part. The twins, who are still only 16, have been playing senior hockey for Wrexham Glyndwr Hockey Club.
Lottie said "I'm so pleased to take part in this tournament, and to play against other countries is a fantastic opportunity for us and it's one that we are really looking forward to."
After winning their first caps for Wales last summer, Caro and Lottie have subsequently represented Wales in the UK School Sports Games in Sheffield, following which they have been training with the Wales under 18 elite squad. An action packed year of preparation has seen the squad train regularly as a group and undertake a meticulous competitive programme that has brought test matches against Ireland and Scotland, interspersed with a number of training matches along the way.
Commenting on the squad Wales Head Coach Tyrone Moore stated "The final squad selected is a very strong one, blessed with skill, warrior mentality and backed up by the experience from players who have competed in tournament hockey, be it a Welsh shirt or at club level. For the majority of the squad this will be their first chance to play in tournament hockey which I know the players are excited for and raring to go. All the management team are very positive in each player's ability and can't wait to see them show case their attacking flair"
