Ellesmere Cricketers Return With U14 Shropshire Title

Ellesmere College are Shropshire Under 14 Cricket champions following a 119 run victory against rivals Bridgnorth School in the county final. Ellesmere will now go on to represent Shropshire in the National ECB/ESCA competition at the U15 age group.

Ellesmere College dominated the final with some outstanding performances with bat and ball. Ellesmere set the pace early with a score of 180-3 (25 overs: Mathew Batkin 53). Bridgnorth School in reply scored 61 all out (17.1 overs: Sam Ellis 4-11; Harry Newton 4-1).

Harry Newton said: "We are champions at last and it is very pleasing to be able to say that. Wednesday was a really good day. We played really well on a good batting pitch. To restrict Bridgnorth to 61 was brilliant."

Cricket at Ellesmere has been seeing a resurgence of talent emerging from their Academy into county representation. Sam Johnson made his debut for the Derbyshire Cricket Academy against Leicestershire during the summer as a wicket keeper, taking his maiden catch and stumping. He followed this by joining George Newton and Connor Davies in being invited to attend the ECB National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University. Sam (16), George (15) and Connor (14) join the emerging talent programme, which aims to help the most promising young players develop their skills with the aim of playing cricket at the very highest level.
