Ellesmere College's U13 Hockey Team Win North Shropshire Tournament

Ellesmere College entered two teams into the U13 North Shropshire Hockey Tournament, with both playing extremely well and facing each other in the semi-final before the School's U13 A team beat Moreton Hall in the final to win the Tournament.

Ellesmere College started with a 4-0 victory over Grove. Ellie Halstead started the scoring followed by two goals from Amelia Morris, and another by Hannah Rogers. The next game against Moreton Hall was fairly even. Ellesmere gained several opportunities throughout, but were unable to score, resulting in a goalless draw. Emma Greville put the team in the lead against Sir John Talbot 2, whereas Tara Goodwin scored the winning goal against Lakelands. They also won their final game of the section, against Oswestry School. Tara Goodwin and Ellie Halstead scored a goal each to ensure the victory. Emma Greville was a key player in maintaining possession and transferring the ball amongst players. She linked well with the strong defenders Bethany Lyttle and Melissa Andrews, who prevented any opposing advancement throughout the tournament, resulting in the keeper Sophie Sheldon having little to do and keeping a clean sheet.

Ellesmere College 2 worked extremely hard in pursuit of winning their section. Ellie Williams scored the first goal against Marches. The game against Thomas Adams was exciting and tense, as the opposition took the lead early on. However, sheer determination amongst the Ellesmere team resulted in them pressurising the Thomas Adams 'D.' Zoe Zembrzuski was quick to score both goals, one from a short corner and another a rebound off the keeper. A 2-0 victory over Grove 2 was to follow, as Naomi Craig and Zoe Zembrzuski both scored a goal each. Another two goals were scored by Zoe Zanbruski to take a victory over Adcote. Their final match against Sir John Talbot 1 resulted in a goalless draw. Throughout the day Georgia Stackhouse intercepted the ball and delayed any opposing advancements towards the defending 'D,'

Within the semi-final, one teams success was about to end as both teams met each other. The Ellesmere College 2 team tried their best to breakdown any forceful movement by team 1. There were scoring opportunities from both teams, however team 1 gained the upper hand as a strong strike found the back of the goal.

Ellesmere College 1 once again played Moreton Hall, but this time ensured that they maximised their scoring opportunities. Amelia Morris was yet again awaiting a cross to the back post, and a superb goal arose. Ellie Halstead opened the lead further as she found space at top 'D' to strike the ball into the far corner.

Several great goals emerged, and some cohesive team play materialised within the games. The parental support added much vibrancy and excitement to the games and was much appreciated.'
