The Ellesmere under 16 Girls' Hockey Team were undefeated in this year's North Shropshire Hockey Tournament.
The team's first match was against Oswestry, Viola Grosvenor provided many excellent balls through to the wing players. Goals arose when Lucy Forgrave's shot was deflected in by Sophie Halstead, and Lydia Lam was quick on the back post to slot in Emily Lewis' cross.
The girls then settled into their positions against Moreton Hall, with Emily Lewis and Zoe Evans playing a mature style of hockey. The first goal arose early in the match as Emily Lewis lifted the ball into the top corner of the goal, and the second soon followed when Lydia Lam approached the back post to push in another goal. Emily Lewis finished the match with another superb goal, again striking it into the top corner of the goal.
The next game against Lakelands resulted in 3 quick goals in the first half, with Emily Lewis, Lydia Lam and Zoe Evans each scoring a goal. However, the girls started to tire against Grove, which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Each player showed much determination, with Charlotte Shearer and Mel Evans breaking down any advancement and the team, although creating many opportunities, were unfortunate not to score. Anwen Pugh, the under 16 Girls' Hockey Coach commented, 'The girls were committed, playing a high standard of hockey throughout the tournament. I was particularly delighted that they were the only team not to lose a match all day.'
