ELLESMERE COLLEGE TO PERFORM ‘SACRED CLASSICS’ CONCERT

The Choral Society at Ellesmere College will be joined by local musicians and perform a concert on Saturday 17th March at 7.00 pm in the College Chapel.

In his second year as the Director of Music at Ellesmere College, Roger Paul will once again be conducting the Ellesmere College Choral Society at their annual Spring concert with classical choral works by Haydn and Mozart.

The programme will feature Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass. There will also be a rare opportunity to hear Haydn’s ‘Insanae et vanae curae’, performed with an orchestra comprising of local musicians from Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Amongst the soloists performing on the night will be Patrick Larley, a former Director of Music at Ellesmere College. The Ellesmere College Choral Society will be joined on the evening by members of the Ludlow Choral Society who heard about the programme andwere keen to participate.

Roger Paul commented ‘I am very much looking forward to conducting the Choral Society again. The works by Mozart and Haydn represent two contrasting approaches to setting the words of the Mass to music. All the members of the Choral Society have worked tremendously hard and I am confident that, together with the Ludlow Choral Society, we will produce a fine performance on 17th March.’

Staff and members of the local community sing alongside each other each Monday during term-time between 7.30 and 9.00 pm, when the Ellesmere College Choral Society rehearse at the Arts Centre. Roger Paul added, ‘We are always keen to hear from anyone who might like to come and join us.’

Tickets are £5.00 each and available from Ellesmere College Reception on 01691 622321, reception@ellesmere.com
