Ellesmere College Sixth Former Breaks through Fundraising Target

A Sixth Form student at Ellesmere College ran in the 100^th Anniversary London Marathon on 13th April 2008.

Mary Pescod has been training since October for the London Marathon, aiming for a time of 4.30 hours but unfortunately, due to intense training, suffered from an injury in her right knee, about 2 months before. Mary was advised by various physiotherapists to pull out, so had a hard decision to make - to continue this year or transfer to next year.

Mary had a recorded time of 5:59:12 and was very happy to have completed the course. Mary said "I really enjoyed the whole experience. Everyone has been really supportive and it was an amazing event with over 35,000 people completing the Marathon all dedicated to their own cause. My target of raising £2,500 for the charity BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER has already been reached and I am still collecting in the money, giving me a new target of £3,000."

Helen Scarisbrick, Mary's Tutor at Ellesmere College added "Mary has never run before and this was an entirely new challenge for her. Mary has also completed her 13-week training course for the Special Constabulary Police." Mary commented "I will go on a tour of duty at every opportunity, although with A levels in the near future, that time will be limited."
