Ellesmere College Shines for Summer Open Day

On Sunday 13 May, the sun shone as visiting families enjoyed the Ellesmere College Full School summer Open Day - with students from all years escorting families on guided tours followed by afternoon tea in Big School Hall.

Classrooms were full of examples of academic work from pupils at different stages - from Yr 3 art projects to the Sixth Form International Baccalaureate Diploma and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). Visiting children had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities, including mathematics, games, music making and laser target shooting. There were also science experiments, crafts and a quiz to occupy younger visitors as families progressed around the School.

On the terraces, the CCF - Combined Cadet Force - showcased the range of activities it provides to pupils alongside the Duke Of Edinburgh Awards at the College, and families enjoyed the skill, agility and team work of the 'Field Gun Run' demonstration.

The Ellesmere College Football Academy was also enjoying the weather with sessions all afternoon led by former Manchester City striker Jon Macken. Tennis Academy coaching sessions were also taking place in the award winning Tennis Centre.

Families then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in Big School with musical accompaniment from our Music Scholars and had the opportunity to meet and chat with Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, and members of the Ellesmere College Parents Society.

Mr Wignall, commented, 'I am delighted that this year's Open Day was so well attended and pleased to welcome so many local families as well as those from further afield looking to board with us here on a weekly or termly basis. I am always keen to ensure that the School's summer Open Day is meaningful to all our visitors and is traditionally supported well by our current parents, however, we are always delighted to meet families visiting us for the first time, as well as those enjoying a second visit.'

The next Ellesmere College Open Day is on Saturday 13th October 1-4 pm.
