Ellesmere College Pupils Complete Life Saver Swimming Course

As part of the College Combined Cadet Force activities a six-week life-saving course has just been successfully completed by a group of Year 10 and 11 pupils.

The 16 pupils from the School's Navy and RAF Sections received their swimming award, Life Saver Level 3, from the College Commanding Officer, Graham Hutchinson, whilst on parade. The course included how to remove a casualty from a pool and resuscitation procedures.

The pupils from the Navy section were: Ollie Brereton, Tom Broadhead, Domenic Ellis, Tom Lee, Iwan Phillips and Jeremy Wright. From the RAF section there were; Joseph Cauchi, Harry Clewlow, Joe Davies, Douglas Forster, George Gregory, Gregory Harrington, Louis Holt, William Ihle, Sean Johnson and Ben Lingard-Lane.

Swimming opportunities have now become possible all the year round since the opening of an indoor pool at the start of the academic year. Pupils and staff alike are taking advantage of being able to have daily use of the pool for both leisure and skills training, including life-saving techniques.

Frank Brooke, the CCF Officer in charge of the Navy section, commented: 'the CCF cadets have enjoyed the opportunity to use the swimming pool to learn how to save their friends without panicking.'
