A Year 8 pupil recently competed in the British Modern Triathlon Championships held in Wolverhampton and achieved third place.
Naomi Craig aged 13, who lives in Clutton, Chester, was delighted by her achievement; she is in the first year of a two year age group.
The Triathlon is run by Pentathlon GB and has three disciplines where points are scored in individual rounds in swimming, running and pistol shooting. The athlete with the highest score of the combined points from each discipline is the overall winner.
Pentathlon GB select the top three athletes for their talent squad from this competition and although Naomi is still twelve months too young Pentathlon GB were so impressed with her performance that they are going to invite her to some of the World Class Talent Programme training next year held at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.
Naomi trains at school where she swims for the Ellesmere College Titans and has been coached at the Schools indoor shooting range.
Helen Davenport, Head of PE at Ellesmere College commented, Naomi is an exceptional young sportswoman. She also competed as part of the West Midlands Modern Pentathlon Team at the British championships and came second. Naomi has also recently started to fence and ride which will enable her to compete in the full modern pentathlon next year.
