On Sunday 19 May, the Ellesmere College Full School summer Open Day was in full swing with students from all years escorting lots of families on guided tours followed by afternoon tea in Big School Hall.
Classrooms were full of examples of academic work from pupils at different stages - from Yr 3 maths conundrums to the Sixth Form International Baccalaureate Diploma and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). Visiting children had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities, including mathematics, Eco-plant pot making, games, music making, science experiments and shooting. There were also crafts and origami to occupy younger visitors as families progressed around the School.
On the lawns, the CCF - Combined Cadet Force - showcased the range of activities it provides to pupils alongside the Duke Of Edinburgh Awards at the College, and families enjoyed all aspects of the Army, Navy and RAF demonstrations including ghillie suits and shelter making.
The Ellesmere College Cricket Academy was also enjoying the weather with games all afternoon and Tennis Academy coaching sessions were also taking place in the award winning Tennis Centre.
Students interested in the Sixth Form were also able to attend a talk by Head of Sixth Form, Mr Wood, in the Sixth Form centre and found out more about the A Level, IB and BTEC courses, Careers Conferences, and EDGE Lectures as well as boarding and day options.
Families then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in Big School with musical accompaniment from our Music Scholars and had the opportunity to meet and chat with Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, and members of the Ellesmere College Parents Society (ECPS).
Following his Welcome Address in the Art Centre, Headmaster Mr Wignall, commented, 'I am delighted that this May Open Day was so well attended and pleased to welcome so many local families as well as those from further afield looking to board with us here on a weekly or termly basis. I am always keen to ensure that the School's summer Open Day is meaningful to all our visitors and is traditionally supported well by our current parents, however, we are always delighted to meet families visiting us for the first time, as well as those enjoying a second visit.'
The next Ellesmere College Open Day is on Saturday 12th October 1-4 pm or call: 01691 626510 or email: registrar@ellesmere.com to book your Visit or Taster Day.
