Ellesmere College's unbeaten girls' hockey squad conceded only one goal on their way to being crowned U18 Shropshire Champions.
In a tense round robin tournament held at Moreton Hall, Ellesmere held firm against Shrewsbury Sixth Form winning 4-0 with goals from Mia Foster, Caro Hulme, Pauline Buhner and Tilly Walker. Ellesmere drew 1-1 with Moreton Hall with a brace from Jess Martin Jones.
With goalkeeper Vicky Fashnau fiercely guarding the net, her almost impregnable defence defied opposition once they had possession.
Captain Jess Martin-Jones said: "We are so pleased to be county champions. All of the girls played really well and we now look forward to representing the county in the next round of matches".
Predictably the toughest draws came against Shrewsbury School, whom they beat 1-0 with a goal from Jess Martin Jones, and Wrekin College, but with Ellesmere's squad championing home based internationals and regional player's, depth of quality was on their side. Ellesmere took the edge to be crowned U18 county champions, beating Wrekin 1-0 with Pauline Buhner scoring the winner.
PE teacher Rebecca Morris said: "This newly formed squad has immense potential as we now go into the Midlands Zone Championships where we will be up against Repton, Wellingborough and Stafford Grammar School. We've got time to build on what we have achieved and knowing the girls they will be determined not to lose."
