2009 GCSE Examination Results

Pupils and teachers at Ellesmere College are delighted with the GCSE results published today.  88% of grades awarded were A* to C grades and over 93% of pupils gained 5 or more A*- C grades.  It was pleasing to note that over 27% of all grades were the top grades of A*/A with the girls excelling themselves with over 38% of grades secured being A* or A.    Many departments recorded 100% pass rate covering a range of subjects across Arts and Science.

Whilst heartfelt congratulations go to all students there were some particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention as many scooped up a cluster of A*/A grades;

Zoe Evans; 4A*'s, 5A's and a B,

Douglas Forster; 5A*, 3A's and 3 B's

James Leahy; 4A*'s, 4A's and 2 B's

Douglas Allsop; 3A*'s, 5A's and 2 B's

Charlotte Shearer; 2A*'s. 7A's and a B

Zoe also managed to achieve a pass grade at the Advanced Additional Mathematics.

Several other students achieved a high number of top grades and the majority of pupils are joining the Ellesmere College Sixth Form to start either A levels or the International Baccalaureate in September.

Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, said 'It is a delight to see such a good set of results particularly as our students not only excel academically but take on enthusiastically the wide range of opportunities we offer them drama, music, a wide range of sports and outdoor adventure training.

Our recent inspection report stated that by the time they leave, pupils are mature, fulfilled individuals who are comfortable with themselves and relate well to others; they are well-prepared for adult life.  That is evident when we look at these young Ellesmerians who are collecting their results today. They have set down an excellent foundation on which to build their Sixth Form career.  The results today are a credit to them, to their teachers and, of course, to their parents.'
