Ellesmere College Choral Society to Perform the Messiah by Handel

A performance of The Messiah by Handel, will take place at Ellesmere College on Saturday 14th March.

 

The Ellesmere College Choral Society is currently rehearsing under the guidance of Roger Paul, Director of Music in preparation for this 125th Anniversary performance.

 

The Choral Society is made up of over 40 singers and includes members of the School's staff and local community who gather in the Ellesmere College Arts Centre each Monday evening to sing together.

 

The School's Singing Teacher, Gaenor Ellis, will be singing Contralto solos. Three other local singers are also singing solos. They are Glyn Aubrey, Tenor, Cathy Benson, Soprano and Richard Paul, Bass.

 

The orchestra will be primarily drawn from the professionals of the Ellesmere Baroque Ensemble but will also include Ellesmere College music scholars. Afra Ekert, winner of the Oswestry & District Arts Association Cup at the recent Oswestry Music Festival, will be playing the oboe, Year 8 Music Scholar, Tabitha Bardsley, the violin, Year 9 pupils, George Fradley, Timpani, John Paul, the cello and Luke Taylor the violin.

 

Roger Paul commented 'I am very much looking forward to conducting Messiah. All the members of the Choral Society have worked tremendously hard and I am confident that, together with the Ellesmere Baroque Ensemble, we will produce a fine performance on 14th March.'

 

The performance of The Messiah takes place in Big School, Ellesmere College on Saturday 14th March at 7.30pm. Adult tickets cost £5 each, 10 to 18's £2 and the Under 9's are free.
