Ellesmere College Celebrates Record IB Results
Ellesmere College was confirmed as one of the top International Baccalaureate schools with a set of results which saw over half our pupils scoring above 30 points, which is equivalent of 3 A* grades at A Level.
Ellesmere has seen its results rise strongly in the last few years, both in IB and A level, making it one of the top co-educational boarding schools in the region. Particular congratulations go to Rebecca Orr from Ellesmere who was 1 of only 109 pupils worldwide (in a cohort of 61,000 candidates) to achieve full marks in every component. Rebecca has now secured her place to read History at Girton College, Cambridge.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma was introduced at Ellesmere in September 2006, as a challenging alternative to A Levels. Students who follow the International Baccalaureate course study six subjects and produce a university standard extended essay as part of their assessment.
Rebecca achieved the highest level available, and was part of only 30 students nationally to be awarded the top mark with level 7 across 6 subjects (English, French, History, Mathematics, Geography and Biology) and a grade A for her extended essay. Rebecca said "I am very happy with my results and have thoroughly enjoyed the IB experience at Ellesmere. Particular thanks to Dr Tompkins, the IB coordinator, for all his encouragement and support over the two years".
The Headmaster at Ellesmere College, Mr Brendan Wignall, commented on the hard work of all the students "I am delighted for our pupils who have done so well in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. They have certainly worked very hard. A specific word of congratulations must go to Rebecca Orr. She has been a most diligent student and will relish the academic challenge that studying at Cambridge will provide her. All of our IB students will be exceptionally well prepared for university following the rigorous demands of this course".
