Last week, a cup donated in memory of a former Ellesmere College pupil, was presented to a Combined Cadet Force Army Cadet at the School.
Old Ellesmerian, Lt. Tom Wootton, died suddenly of natural causes on 29th March 2007 aged 27, whilst serving with the Territorial Army West Midlands Regiment. Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, hosted a lunch for Mr and Mrs Wootton when they visited the School to make the presentation. Year 11 pupil Tom Carr from Cockshutt was presented with the Wootton Cup for Best Cadet on Camp in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the success of the 2007 Army Cadet Summer Camp at Wathgill, North Yorkshire.Tom's parents, Mr and Mrs Carr were also in attendance to see their son receive the Wootton Cup.
Lt Col Graham Hutchinson, commented "Whilst a pupil at Ellesmere College, Tom Wootton was a young man who possessed a great zest for life's challenges, a determination to learn what was necessary to meet them, and a belief that with persistence they can be overcome. He always displayed excellent leadership potential as a young cadet, ever mindful of the capacities of those it was his responsibility to help train. Cadet Lance Corporal Carr is a very fitting first recipient of the trophy that has been donated in Lt Wootton's memory, and we were delighted that Mr & Mrs Wootton were here to award it.'
