Ellesmere Alumni Body Elect First Female President

New OE President

A 123-year tradition came to an end last Friday as the alumni pupil body of Ellesmere elected its first female president.

At last week's Old Ellesmerian Club 2007 Annual General Meeting and after a full year supporting activities including a major Old Ellesmerian Festival at the School, former pupil and current parent, Richard Morris, handed over the Presidency to Annie Granger, who was a Sixth Form pupil between 1986 and 1988.

After school, Annie followed in her father's footsteps and joined TSB Bank. Whilst her career in banking has given Annie the opportunity to travel and work around the UK, she has chosen to retain a home close to her family roots in Ellesmere. This has helped to ensure that Annie has kept abreast of the numerous significant changes to her former school, particularly those under the leadership of the current Headmaster, Brendan Wignall, over the last decade.

Annie commented, 'When I was at Ellesmere, there were only Sixth Form girls and they were considerably outnumbered by boys. Nowadays, I am very pleased to report that girls throughout the School play a significant role in the rich tapestry of school life today. I would certainly not hesitate to send my children to experience the wealth of opportunity that has always existed and which continues to be developed at the School in exciting and innovative ways.'
