This Lent Term saw the welcome return of the Senior School House Singing competition which this year took the theme of Big Band Jazz.
All the students in Middle School and Sixth Form took part in an evening that was
action packed and saw a return to what is one of the most important events in
the Ellesmere calendar. House Captains took the lead in preparing students in
both their Unison Songs and in the small ensemble Part Songs and Hymn.
Our judges for the evening were Kevin Mattinson (trombonists and Big Band specialist), Jack Corbett (Performing Arts Centre Manager) and our head judge, Paul Drakeley, a professional singer who specialises in the style and performs in a Rat Pack tribute show.

Houses took opportunities to style the event with Georgia Monroe as the
Statue of Liberty, and Farrell Given using a train whistle to organise his
house so that they did not miss their 'Chatanooga Choo Choo'. The overall winners were
Talbot and special mention must go to Charlie Wood who took the solo at the
start of 'My Way' as well as leading rehearsals.
There was a special treat for the students while the judges were
deliberating in the form of staff entertainment. The staff sang L.O.V.E.,
Beyond the Sea, It Don't Mean a Thing and The Lady is a Tramp to huge acclaim.
Their vocal stylings and sharp dance moves will surely prove inspiration in the
continuing story of House Singing. Over to the class of 2024!
