Cricketers Achieve Representative Honours

Ten pupils aged between 10 and 17 have recently learnt of their success to represent their District, County or Country.

Year 10 pupil, Dewi Jones who lives in Wrexham, has been chosen to join the Under 15 Wales squad and Year 9 pupil, Edward Bridge, the Shropshire Disabled Squad.

A group of Lower School pupils have achieved representative honours with Year 6 pupil, Marcus Bruce and Year 7 pupil, Sebastian McCarthy who have both been chosen to represent the North Shropshire District at Under 11. Year 8 pupils, David Powell has been chosen for the North Shropshire Under 13 squad and Fraser Murdoch has been selected for the North Wales County squad, and has trials for the Wales squad soon who he has represented for the last 2 years.

Year 10 pupil Sam Owen and Ben Oakley in Year 11, have been chosen to join the Shropshire Under 15 and Under 16 squads respectively. Matthew Macintosh in Year 11 and Sam Philips in Year 12 have also both achieved honours to play for the Shropshire Under 17 team.

Rod Jones, Director of the Cricket Academy commented, All these boys have been playing cricket at Ellesmere for a number of years as well as playing for their local clubs.  Although cricket is the major summer sport for boys at Ellesmere, there is the opportunity through the winter to continue their batting practice in the indoor nets which has certainly paid off for this group.

Ian Williams, Director of Sport added, All these boys are dedicated to developing their cricket skills and I am delighted that they have been recognised for their ability and effort.

Rod Jones will be running a pre-season cricket course at Ellesmere College during the Easter holidays and all local children are welcome.
