College Launch For International Music Festival

A major music festival has officially been launched in Ellesmere. Organisers of the Whittington International Chamber Music Festival selected Ellesmere College to launch the 2015 event, which takes place from 12 to 17 May following last year's collaboration which saw four music scholars from the school perform alongside one of the UK's leading ensembles Ignite.

As part of the collaboration London-based Werther Ensemble - made up of distinguished musicians - Jamie Campbell (violin), Hannah Strijbos (viola), James Barralet (cello) and Simon Callaghan (piano), have already spent time at the school working alongside Lower Sixth pupils to advise on conduction, producing and performing.

Tony Coupe, Director of Music said "This was a unique opportunity to bring to life the musical compositions of our students, in a live concert. The ensemble's professionalism really helped the pupils and their suggestions on performance have been valuable. We hope this will be the start of a promising partnership".

The event was rounded off with a live public concert which included performances by students and the school chamber choir
