Despite the poor weather conditions across Shropshire, some members of the congregation travelled considerable distances across the county to attend the annual Ellesmere College Candlelit Community Carol Service. For the sixth year in a row, the School welcomed over 300 local people at the first of a series of carol services in the Schools Chapel.
The Service started with the lighting of hundreds of candles and the dimming of lights before a soloist form the Schools Chapel Choir sang the first verse of Little Town of Bethlehem. With nine readings read by one representative from each Senior School year, a Prefect, two members of the academic staff and the Headmaster, the Service was the start of Christmas for many of the congregation.
After the Service, the congregation were invited to walk down the candlelit corridor to Big School where festive refreshments were being served. On entering Big school, guests were treated to a short performance on the Schulze Organ by former music scholar, Paul Russell before enjoying mulled wine and mince pies.
