The Schools Chapel will be filled with music again on Saturday 17th March, when the Choral Society will perform their annual concert and be joined by Shaun Turnbull, a talented young Organ Player and former Gap student at the School, performing on the Chapel Organ. The theme for the evening will be Choral Music Through Time.
The Choral Society has existed for many decades and numbers have swelled in recent years, now boasting 60 members. Pupils, staff, parents and members of the local community sing alongside each and annually perform a Lent Term concert.
Following months of rehearsal, under the direction of Roger Paul, Director of Music, who will also be conducting the performance on Saturday, The Choral Society will sing a selection of pieces through the ages. Guest singer will be Harriet Goodwin, a Mezzo Soprano from Staffordshire. The varied pieces will range from Mozart to Gibbons and Bach to Bernstein. In keeping with St. Patricks Day, the concert will also include Nunc Dimittis in Bb by the Irish composer, Stanford.
The singers will be accompanied by the professional sounds of Shaun Turnbull playing the Chapel Organ. Roger Paul, Director of Music, explained, It will be a wonderful evening of music with Shaun also playing some solo pieces on the Chapel Organ.
The Concert will start at 7pm and the ticket price is 5, with accompanied children free. The Ellesmere College Choral Society meet every Monday evening during term time, between 7.30pm and 9pm, in the Schools Arts Centre and new members are always welcome.
