The Schools Chapel looked particularly beautiful recently as the School held its annual Harvest Festival services for both Senior and Lower School.
The Chaplain, Father David Slim, conducted the services amidst a profusion of colourful produce and flowers, reminding staff and students of the need to be thankful. The Lower School service was attended by a large group of parents and grandparents who took a full part in the service and particularly enjoyed the Action Chorus that brought the service to a close.
As well as distributing Harvest Gifts to local charities, the School chose this year to support the purchasing of goats for families in Africa from the retiring collections. Father David Slim commented, The Lower and Senior School Harvest Festival services gave all the pupils a real appreciation of how many people work to provide us with the food we need and how fortunate we were compared to people in other countries around the world. I was delighted that the retiring collections amassed sufficient funds to buy 7 goats for African families which should significantly help them economically.
The donated produce, included sculpted bread from Vermeulens in Ellesmere, was distributed to local charities, including Hope House, Dolywern Residential Home and The Meres Day Centre for the elderly.
Later this year, former pupils and members of the local community are welcome to join staff and pupils at the annual candlelit Community Carol Service on Thursday 1st December at 7.30pm.
