A Level Results Day 2017

Sixth Form students celebrated their A level success with an overall performance which saw a 96% pass rate, including quite a number of outstanding results. Nearly 50% of all grades awarded to students were in the top A*A B grades with the girls raising that bar to 58% of their grades published being A*A B.

Whilst heartfelt congratulations go to all our students, there were several particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention.

Alice Yang, Shenyang, A* A* A A Mathematics, Further Maths, Economics, and Physics. Alice has secured her place at Girton College, Cambridge to read Economics.
Lewis Hall, Baschurch, A*A A Biology, Chemistry, Maths. Lewis will read Medicine at Birmingham.
Laura Harrison, Auldearn, A A A Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and will read Medicine at Glasgow.
Cezary Klimczuk, A* A A A*, Mathematics, Further Maths, Economics, Polish and goes on to read Economics at University College, London.

The recent introduction of BTEC Sports Performance and Excellence Diploma has been a great success. Lottie Hulme, and Caro Hulme, Bronygarth, managed to combine playing International hockey with study and secured double A* grades in BTEC Sports and top grades of A and B in A level Business Studies. They go on to study at Nottingham Trent, who have awarded both a hockey scholarship. Lottie will read Law with Business and Caro is studying Business Marketing.

The A level results follow on from those that International Baccalaureate Diploma students received earlier in the summer. The diploma pass level of 24 points has the equivalent value of BCC grades at A Level and 90% of the 2017 Ellesmere cohort achieved 24 points or more, with over a third awarded more than 30 points, which is equivalent of A*AA grades at A Level.

There were a few notable IB performances that are worthy of further comment:

Rosie Jackson, of Dudleston Heath, achieved of 38 points, which equates to 3.6 A* grades at A level (or 206 new UCAS points) securing her place at the University of York to read biochemistry. Others achieving and impressive 30 points or more are; Henning Bergmeyer, (Rheine) Vincent Moonen, (Tilberg) Marthe Richter, (Detmold) Catrin Stephens, (Newtown) Tapas Varshneya (Bangalore) and Chelsea Watson (Shifnal). It is a demanding and highly rewarding course of study held in high esteem by universities. The IB Diploma opens doors to the top universities in both the UK and around the world. Universities value the course as an excellent preparation for university and for life.
