Three Talented Students Receive Scholarships At Ellesmere

ellesmere-college-scholarship-awards-winnerThree talented students were presented with Sixth Form scholarships at Ellesmere College following an awards luncheon at the school. The scholarships were created by Old Ellesmerians in order to enable talented local students' access to an Ellesmere education.

Beatrice Quinton, 16, was presented with the Mullock Arts Scholarship by Robyn and David Mullock. Beatrice is a talented musician, who sings and plays several musical instruments to an exceptionally high standard. Her ambition is to study music at Oxbridge.

ellesmere-college-scholarship-awards-winner-2The Silver Cross Academic Scholarship, awarded to an outstanding academic student, was presented to Dominic Kular, 17, by Alan Halsall, the owner of Silver Cross Prams PLC and an Old Ellesmerian.

"I believe it is important to give something back whenever you can. As a businessman, I'm always looking for a good investment and Ellesmere College has played a part in my success, therefore I'm delighted to invest into Dominic's future," said Alan.

The Ian Beer Rugby Scholarship was created by Old Ellesmerians to honour the 80th Birthday of retired Headmaster, Ian Beer, who played rugby for Cambridge and England. This final scholarship was awarded to Matthew Kinney, 17, a talented young Rugby player and member of the elite Ellesmere College Rugby Academy.

ellesmere-college-scholarship-awards-winner-3The scholarships will run for the two years that the students are in the Sixth Form and provides not only financial support but also mentoring connections to the global network of 7000 Old Ellesmerians around the world.

Nick Pettingale, Director of External Relations, said, "I don't believe you can overstate the value and power of these scholarships. I meet many Old Ellesmerians who wish to make a difference and express their gratitude to the school, which contributed to their own success, by giving something back. This is why we have a full Sixth Form lecture programme and offers of mentoring and work experience from around the world".
