8 ELLESMERE COLLEGE PUPILS SELECTED TO PLAY RUGBY AT REGIONAL LEVEL

Following the recent regional rugby under 18 trials, 8 out of the 10 Shropshire lads selected are pupils at Ellesmere College.

The 8 boys who all play for the Ellesmere College 1st XV Rugby Team, were selected recently to join the North Midlands Team and played their first game against Hereford, winning 4 tries to 1.

The selection was announced at today's Senior School Assembly and the group were whole heartedly congratulated by all. Congratulations went to the following pupils for their regional selection:

Adam Churton, Joel Galley, Pat Gorman, Rhys Hayes, James King, Ben Morris, Mark Pearson and Alex Wilcox.

Paul Goodwin, Director of Rugby at Ellesmere College, commented, ''I am delighted to see so many players reaching such a high standard. The Ellesmere College Rugby Academy, now in its fourth year, is producing excellent players and tremendous school teams. The current 1st XV is following the unbeaten season last year with a 100% playing record so far this season. At one point during the regional trial, with other pupils, Sam Lewis, Nat. Thomas and Jim Lloyd, who with pre 1st January birthdates were too old for selection for U18, there were 11 Ellesmere players on the pitch representing Shropshire. In the final, the county team ended with a draw against Worcester 12 - 12, it was a good night, not only for Shropshire but Ellesmere rugby too.'
