Year 7 Pupils Create Models for Competition

Year 7 Pupils Create Model Competition

All the Year 7 pupils were encouraged recently to participate in a project to build a contour model from a flat plan and prizes were awarded for the best entries.

In their Geography lessons, Year 7 pupils spent the first term of the year learning and practising their mapping skills using their atlases and Ordnance Survey maps. A competition was launched over the Christmas holiday and all of the Year 7 pupils entered. The entries were of an exceedingly high standard this year. Fred Williams from the Design Technology Department judged the entries and commented that he had found making a decision extremely difficult. Helen Scarisbrick, Head of Geography commented, "Building models is one way of bringing this exciting subject to life. All the pupils will now appreciate that a flat map only gives an indication of what is really out there."
