Gap Students arrive at Ellesmere

 

 

 

 

Three young people from across the world have recently arrived in North Shropshire to spend their GAP year at Ellesmere College.

 

As part of a well established programme of visits by students from Australia and New Zealand, Ellesmere College has recently welcomed Justine McCullagh, Pippa Krantz and Philip Hook

 

Justine McCullagh has come from Pymble Ladies College in Sydney and Pippa Krantz from Canberra Girls' Grammar School in Canberra, Australia. Philip Hook has come from Saint Kentigern College in Auckland, NZ have joined the Ellesmere College Common Room to support teachers and pupils' with extra-curricular activities.

Justine is planning to start a Commerce and Arts degree at Sydney University. Her first opportunity to travel outside Australia, she has come to the UK to experience living in another country and take advantage of the many opportunities to travel around Europe.

Pippa is part of a group of friends working around the UK who will be travelling through Europe together. She commented, 'I am particularly looking forward to doing a Top Deck Tour of Europe in the summer which should be a highlight. I hope to pick up some additional foreign language skills and enjoy the freedom and challenges that come my way.' Next year Pippa will be returning to Canberra to study Arts Law at the Australian National University.'

 

Philip's focus this year will be on the travel opportunities during the holiday periods since he is planning to see as maney of the main sights across Europe, before returning to New Zealand at Christmas and beginning a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology course at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Tim Bongers, French Teacher and Lower School Tutor, who also has the responsibility of supporting the Gap Students whilst at Ellesmere College commented, 'In Justine, Pippa and Philip we have been blessed with another trio of excellent 'gappies', popular with pupils and staff alike. They will each certainly make a huge contribution to College Life this year.'
