'LUCKY 13' ELLESMERE COLLEGE PUPILS SELLECTED TO PLAY RUGBY AT REGIONAL LEVEL
A group of rugby playing pupils from Ellesmere have recently been selected to play for the North Midlands rugby team at both under 18 and under 19 levels.
A total of 13 Sixth Form boys who all play for the Ellesmere College 1st XV Rugby Team, were selected recently to join the North Midlands Team and played their first game yesterday against Warwickshire.
The Headmaster, Brendan Wignall announced the selection in this week's Senior School assembly and the group were whole heartedly congratulated by all. Congratulations went to the following pupil for their regional selection:
U18
Sam Lewis, James Lloyd, Nat Thomas, Adam Churton, Ben Morris, Rhys Heyes all played against Warwickshire. Also selected but unfortunately injured and unable to play currently are Chris Morgan and Alex Dunn.
U19
Danny Matthews, James Farrell, Steve Bannister
In addition, two players have been chosen to play for the North Wales U18 Rugby Team and they are Aled Ellis and Joel Galley.
Paul Goodwin, Director of the Rugby at Ellesmere College commented; 'I am delighted to see so many players reaching such a high standard. We have record breaking numbers playing for the North Midlands and North Wales. The Ellesmere College Rugby Academy, now in its third year, is producing excellent players and tremendous school teams. The current 1st XV is following the unbeaten season last year with a 100% playing record so far this season.
