1sts Netball Vs Kings, Chester
After having only beaten Kings marginally at the beginning of term, we knew that it was going to be a tough game against a side who are improving all the time. The girls started off sluggishly making silly basic mistakes. Weather conditions werent great, a strong wind meant the girls had to adapt their normal game to short, direct passes. In the first quarter, Kings took an early 6-5. After a stern word at the interval, Ellesmere began to play their normal game and looked exceptional on the attack. The team totally dominated the second and third quarters and took a ten goal lead going into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, Kings started to play again and quickly scored 4 goals as Ellesmere looked totally disorganised. Words of encouragement from the Ellesmere substitutes seemed to do the trick and Ellesmere once again got their game back and went on to win 30 16. Players of the match were Buffy Swinnerton and Abigail Merrell. Thanks to the 2nd Team players who came to cover as subs for the absent Rosie and Beth.
U14 North Shropshire Netball Tournament
The U14s were drawn in a competitive group of 5 Schools Oswestry, Marches, Corbet and Sir John Talbot School. They played well in the group stage winning 3 matches and drawing one. This meant they finished top of their group. In the semis they faced Moreton Hall. The U14s played the best netball they had played all term and it couldnt have been any closer with the final score at the end of play being 6-6. Due to both teams having scored the same amount of goals, the teams had to play extra time to decide who would go through to the final. Again, it couldnt have been closer but unfortunately for the Ellesmere girls, Moreton went through winning 7-6. Credit must go to the girls as their was some excellent play throughout the afternoon. Well done U14s.
U16 North Shropshire Hockey Tournament
The U16 girls went into this tournament having only had 1 practice and then the full team werent all available to train. But having only just recently won the U16 Netball, the girls went to the tournament with the objective of gaining the double. The team got off to a great start with two early goals from Tash Evans. We were camped in their half for most of the match with Beth Clewloe scoring the final goal to beat SJT 3-0. In the next game against the Grove, Tash carried on with her goal fest and the team went onto win 2-0. There was lots of great play with special mention going to Emma Johnson in midfield. The girls went onto win all games and met Moreton Hall in the final, who had looked strong all tournament. The girls got off to the best of starts with Ellie Moss scoring within 2 minutes. A sloppy goal was then given away and after that both teams had their chances and a 1-1 draw was a fair result with both teams sharing the title of North Shropshire Champions. Well done to the girls who won the tournament without much training as it is the Netball term and adapting their play to the astro pitch at the Marches School.
Miss Goss commented this is an excellent result for the U16 Girls who have now won the double North Shropshire Netball and Hockey Tournaments. It is also promising for the future of girls sports teams at Ellesmere College as these are the senior teams for the next two years.
