U16 Netball Team win North Shropshire Tournament

Ellesmere College recently hosted and then went onto win the North Shropshire Under 16 Netball Tournament.

On Wednesday 1st Feb, Ellesmere College hosted the Under 16 North Shropshire Netball Tournament. This year saw a record number of schools entering, giving the expectation that the tournament was going to be highly competitive.

Ellesmere were grouped against Corbet, Rhyn Park and Thomas Adams. Ellesmere fought off tough opposition to win the group stage and played Grove in the semi finals. Ellesmere played positively in the semis and pulled away to win a place in the final against Oswestry School. The final game proved to be close with both teams showing good athleticism and some good quality Netball. The score finished 6-5 to Ellesmere. This is the second year in succession for Ellesmere to win the Under 16 tournament.

Mrs Sharon Owen, Ellesmere Colleges Head of Middle School and Coach for the Under 16 team, commented It was a superb tournament with a very close and well fought final. Both teams played with athletic flair making it a great game to watch. The Oswestry Team pushed Ellesmere all the way but we showed great competitiveness in our play to hold on and win!

Miss Helen Goss, Head of Girls Games commented It was great to see so many schools being represented at the tournament at Ellesmere College. During the afternoon, there was some great Netball being played especially in the Final. Well done to the Ellesmere Under 16 Girls who showed great determination right to the end to hold on to victory and to become North Shropshire Champions!
