Last year, a sixteen year old pupil from a North Shropshire School saw an advertisement for a national shooting competition and decided to enter himself. Eight months later and after four shooting matches, he is now the proud holder of the competition cup and gold medal.
James Bielby, a Year 11 pupil at Ellesmere College has been shooting as part of a school activity for the last 5 years. His natural talent was uncovered early on and within a year he was representing the school and by the age of 13 he was in the Under 21 Great Britain squad and a year later also was invited to join the Welsh Under 21 squad.
Philip Hillier, the shooting coach at Ellesmere College commented with both an indoor and outdoor shooting range, the School provides the coaching opportunity for someone like James to have his natural talent uncovered early and, combined with his great enthusiasm and dedication to progress, this has meant that he has succeeded at a young age to achieve national recognition for his shooting ability.
