Senior Debating Competition

Ellesmere College recently held its second senior Inter-House Debating which was a big success, involving every pupil in Years 9 - 13.

The competition was held in the Arts Centre of Ellesmere College with the four Houses submitting teams of three pupils.  The topics that were initially debated were "This House Believes that America Does More Harm Than Good' and "This House Believes That Third World Debt Should be Cancelled'.  Their final round's subject was "This House Believes That the Olympic Games are a Waste of Money'

With an energetic and lively audience, the speakers all did remarkably well and the competition was stiff' commented Claire Crampton, the English teacher who organises the annual competition.  She added "All speakers had just ten days to prepare for the competition and the high standard of preparation was apparent'

Talbot were the winning House beating off the rival Houses by just four marks.  This was the second time that Jonathan Bevan, Chris Bevan and Steven Evans had won the competition.
