We are delighted to report that building work on phase one of the new Sports Centre has begun. Besides a multi-use Sports Hall, the new building will incorporate classrooms with video links to facilitate sport video analysis. The new hall will have provision for team games such as basketball, handball, hockey, netball, volleyball and soccer. Individual sports will include badminton, fencing, gymnastics and tennis. There will also be four indoor cricket nets and a Dance Studio.
The hall will be capable to be divided into smaller working areas which will help to utilise the space to its optimum potential and facilitate multi-sport activities. The work will be completed and the Sports Hall equipped by the start of the new academic year in September 2004. It is then the intention to commence the work on phase two of the Sports Centre and enclose the swimming pool.
Local community groups will be encouraged to consider the Sports Hall as a venue for their sporting activities.
The start of the work on the Sports Hall has been made possible by the generosity of those who have already contributed to the Sports Centre Appeal. The College wishes to thank all those who have already contributed to the Ellesmere College Sports Centre Appeal.
