Show Success for College's Head Groundsman

Ian Morris, Head Groundsman at Ellesmere College has just returned from a highly successful Spring Gardening Show at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. He was part of the prize winning entry “The Folks who live on the Hill” designed by the Shropshire Branch of the Institute of Groundsmanship of which Ian is Branch Secretary and Midland Region representative. The criteria used by the judges is the same as that used at the famous Chelsea Flower Show, so winning the Royal Horticultural Society Gold prize is a great accolade. This year's entry was inspired by chart topping song of the title and the natural beauty of a Welsh smallholding. It featured a house and three connecting areas, the Meadow, Vegetable garden and Wood. Ian has now returned to his normal battle of maintaining the splendid 70 acres of grounds at Ellesmere College where he is responsible not only for the landscaping but also a 9 hole golf course and various cricket and rugby pitches, all of which need expert care and preparation. Anyone who is interested in finding out more details about the College should contact the Headmaster's Secretary on 01691 622321.The Institute of Groundsmanship can be contacted via Ian on 07950 454367.
