14 years old, Abigail Merrill, from Wrexham, got into the swing of things to beat off competetion from around the country to claim first prize in a prestigious golf tournament. Abigail started playing golf 4 years ago with her father and uncles and now has just won the P.G.A Junior Championship - Celtic Manor 2002. This competition is open to U18's and she had to play against 10 others.
Not bad going to say that it was only two years ago that she started playing in competitions, and has only one lesson a week. However she does practise regularly on the driving ranges and fits in a round of golf on the Ellesmere College 9-hole golf course, when time permits.
Her current handicap is 28, but it is her ambition to get it down to single figures before too long.
