Commonwealth Games Achievement

Siân Corish has safely returned from an exciting couple of weeks competing in the Commonwealth Games. She was competing in the Women's 3-Position Rifle events where she was representing Wales. In spite of being only 15 and the youngest competitor by six years she only just missed out on a medal in the Ladies Pairs event finishing 5th with her partner Julie Daltry. In the Individual event she again gained a very creditable score eventually finishing 18th out of a very strong field.

Siân said “it was not just the shooting that made this event so exciting it was the whole experience. Being at Manchester for the opening and closing ceremonies was unbelievable -even with all the rain!” In spite of the shooting events taking place in Surrey at the National Shooting Centre at Bisley special trains were organised to take the competitors from Bisley to the ceremonies at Manchester. Siân also had the chance to sample life in a Commonwealth Village, which for the shooters was based at the University of Surrey at Guildford.

There was no chance for a rest for Siân as she went straight from the Games back to Bisley to represent Great Britain in a British U21 International against countries form Denmark, Germany, South Africa and the USA, joining forces with her twin sister Jennifer. They both had very successful international with the British Ladies Team including Siân and Jennifer winning Gold medals in all three events.

Jennifer took individual gold in the Ladies Air Rifle and Siân gained individual Bronze in the Three-Position event. After a really hectic summer Siân and Jennifer now are back to school and to their GCSE Studies.
