ELLESMERE COLLEGE CHESS CHAMPS
Four pupils from Ellesmere College took part recently in the Regional round of the National Schools Chess Championships. This year's competition has attracted a national entry of 55,000 pupils and the regional round which took place in Telford involved some of the best players from Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
All four pupils did outstandingly well and were all successful in reaching this year's National Finals which take place at Sheffield University this July. For Scott Cooper, 13 years old from Llangollen, and Jade Brodie, 11 years old from Nantwich; this will be their second time at the national finals, but equally impressive were the performance of Leonie Brereton, 11 years old from Oswestry and Sarah Lowe, 11 years old from Oswestry. Sarah Lowe was the overall champion in her section and won a magnificent trophy and the title of "suprema'
