Cross Country Success
Schools Cross Country Championships. On Saturday 5th January, seven pupils from Ellesmere College took part in the championships at Brignorth. They were:
U15B: Oliver Blake, 11 years from Oswestry.
U13B: Mark Rowland, 13 years from Whitchurch, Stephen Johnson, 12 years from Llangollen, Toby Dell, 12 years from Oswestry, Zachary Albertsen, 12 years from Chester and Matthew Burrows, 11 years old from Bunbury.
U13G: Skye Higgin, 12 years from Malpas.
Best Results: Oliver Blake finished 4th
Skye Higgin finished 5th
Both qualified to run for Shropshire in the U.K inter-counties race at Nottingham on February 9th, which is to be televised by Sky Sports.
Matthew Burrows finished 12th running against some boys nearly two years older. He is likely to be a reserve for the county team.
SHROPSHIRE SCHOOLS CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Again great success for Ellesmere College. Held on 19th January at Telford. The best results are:
Junior Girls: Skye Higgin 10th
Senior Girls: Rhiannon Atkin 1st
Year 7 Boys: Matthew Burrows 1st
Jordan Halstead 6th
Junior Boys: Oliver Blake 2nd
All have been chosen to run for Shropshire in an Inter-counties race and Oliver and Rhiannon have been selected to run for the county in "English Schools Championship' in Chelmsford, 9th March. Oliver has also just been selected to represent the County at the National Indoor Arena on Wednesday 20th February.
It is worth noting that Matthew Burrows was only in his second race and Oliver Blake is still recovering from a knee 4 months ago.
