Chester

Approximately 24 miles from Ellesmere, Chester is a Roman city with many attractions including the famous "rows" two-tiered shopping galleries which date from the Middle Ages. Chester boasts many fine buildings including the Cathedral, Amphitheatre and the second most photographed clock in Britain after Big Ben, the Eastgate Clock.

Llangollen

Approximately 12 miles from Ellesmere it is a small Welsh town with the River Dee running through the middle and internationally famous for their Eisteddfod which takes place every July.

Shrewsbury

Shropshire's county town set amidst glorious countryside near to the Welsh borders. It is one of England's finest medieval market towns. It is also the birthplace of Charles Darwin. Shrewsbury is packed with timber-framed black and white buildings, steep narrow streets and alleyways. It boasts over 600 listed buildings including the Castle which is now a regimental museum and the world-wide famous Shrewsbury Abbey, home of the fictional Brother Cadfael.
