b'Hockey Success: Home & Away!Its been another successful - and busy - year for the High Performance Hockey Programme with successes for both girls and boys and mixed teams through the season. In January the U18 Boys Hockey Team became County Championsplaying valiantly and resiliently through a series of tough pool games to winning the title. U18 Girls made steady progress in the early stages of the National Cup, and the Senior Mixed Hockey teams also saw success as they lifted the cup in the Wolverhampton Grammar School Mixed 7-a-side tournament. More great news for OE Alanah OBrein who once again represented the Welsh Ladies Team in goal and two younger students represented in the UK Lions Teams on the U14 Tour of Holland. Finn and Isabellaboth Yr 9played a series of rounds against some challenging international sides with Finns UK U14 Boys team lifting the final trophy and Isabellas U14 Girls team coming second overall. Finn scored an amazing 18 goalsout of the total of 19 that were scored during the weekend. The Ellesmere College Swimming Academy has been making waves around the globe and celebrating some outstanding results for its swimmers who have been competing in key international events from the beginning of the season.Two of the team who were selected to swim for the European Juniors in Romania - Andrew B and George S who are both in Yr 13, competed in Romania in early July. Isaac D was also revealed to be one of the Academy Swimmers competing in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games at the brand new Sandwell Aquatics Centre!Key events were also being attended in the British Swimming Championships and Derventio Open meet which the Edinburgh International Open Meet, ESSA National Championships and the Stockport Metro Spring Meet. These act as pivotal meets as the long-course season is now well under way, making the all-important adjustments after a successful short-course season.A select group of Academy Swimmers were also chosen to take part in the DISE 2 year course which is tailored to the athletes and their respective disciplines, offering them the key knowledge and skills necessary in order to become a high-performance international athlete combined with their academic journeys.
